Adoption Questionnaire

Our goal is to match you with the best dog to fit your lifestyle. To get started, please fill out this brief adoption questionnaire and we will get back to you to set up a meet and greet. After meeting our dog(s) and you are ready to forward with adoption, we will provide you with resources to help you get ready for your new dog and arrange a home delivery. Our suggested adoption donation is $250. This tax-deductible donation helps us continue our mission to help dogs in need.

Please note: Our dogs are available for adoption in the greater Los Angeles area. We do not adopt out of state. We occasionally have courtesy listings for dogs that belong to other rescue groups. Please read the pet’s bio and contact that group directly for more information.

He has a large white chest and perky ears; he's darling. Bruno is a mature adult dog at 9 years old. When Bruno was a young puppy he lived at Downtown Dog Rescue when it was just a parking lot and a couple volunteers. He was a very happy dog who was quickly adopted. Sadly, his owner passed away and he is back at our kennel. A little older and wiser, he is again looking for a home. He needs a simple life with someone to love who will give him some snuggles, short walks and a super soft bed. He is a very sweet boy who will be easy to manage. He does not mind other dogs but prefers to have his human all to himself! He would do well in most homes with no small children or other pets. Bruno lived with a dog sibling most his life, but now that he is older he wants to relax and be the only dog. We cannot blame him! Bruno would love some visitors, come meet him at our kennel in South Gate and learn more about being a forever foster for Bruno! Dani is a courtesy post for Dawg Squad Rescue. If you are interested in Dani, please contact Dawgsquad@rocketmail.com Hi there! You may recognize me. I was in Dawg Squad about 3 years ago and yes….sadly…I am back. You see, my person fell on some hard times and he couldn’t keep me anymore. I’m not mad at him or anything…..just a little sad that we can’t live together. BUT my Dawg Squad fosters are cool I love doing normal dog things. I especially like hanging out with Josel down at Burton Chase Park. I’m his “eye candy” when he’s doing a photo shoot. Yup…..people see me and think I’m adorable….then they think he must be awesome to have such an awesome dog with him. Win/win right? Why don’t you fill out an application and WE can get together? Maybe for a snack or something?

Dylan is a wonderful 6 -7 month old puppy rescued from the San Bernardino Shelter. He is happy, upbeat, full of life, ready to take on any adventure, loves all people and loves ALL other dogs and is ready to make friends. He is a hoot, in that he plays with toys, plays with other dogs, and can get very into the play quite enthusiastically. He can get the “zoomies,” and then another dog here, Gillian will chase and chase him. But Dylan can also chill out and settle down very nicely too. If I need to lie down, during the day, Dylan will settle and lie down next to me for hours. So even though he can play play play, he can also settle and also does AMAZINGLY WELL if I need to put him in his wire crate for a break or to chill out. He is also a great balance of being near you, and exploring and being more independent (I sometimes find him on the porch on a pet bed sunning himself). Based on a DNA test, Dylan is an Italian Greyhound/Chihuahua mix with some Mexican hairless in his line. He is an ADORABLE dog with a super cute puppy face that will probably always have that perpetual “puppy look.” He has a beautiful white coat with beautiful tan markings and ticking spots and even the distinct shape of a heart on his left side! Weighing about 12 lbs., Dylan may grow a bit more. He has very long legs and is quite tall, which makes him good for walking, running and even hiking. His coat is very soft and he also loves to cuddle. He is very loving and affectionate, always giving humans and other dogs kisses but this can also be potentially annoying to a dog that does not like Dylan being so in the face. One of my female pit bulls tolerates Dylan’s loving on her quite well, with kisses and affection; the other one occasionally growls and seems a bit put out, but endures it none-the-less and yet and still, they are often found cuddling on the same pet bed. Dylan is crate-trained and potty-trained (though potty reinforcement is needed in any new environment). He had one potty accident in my house and I corrected him and he learned from that day on. He also learned the doggie door quickly on his own. This shows me that he is a smart dog. He LOVES toys and plays with an array of toys, either on his own, or with another dog. I have never seen him be destructive, but being such a young puppy still, he still needs to be watched, so crating him when folks are gone from home works best, for now, and he is well-mannered in his (appropriately sized) wire crate when I need to crate him, for example if I leave the house, or for sleeping. He is basically quiet but he will definitely alert bark. Dylan would work best in a home with another easy going and definitely playful dog. He is VERY dog friendly and loves ALL dogs, but if the dog is unwilling or no longer able to play, Dylan may be annoying to an older or senior dog, without a younger dog to be a play outlet. I also think a yard would be a huge plus since Dylan likes to run full bore. Dylan is NOT a hyper dog in the least. Simply, he is still in the puppy stage of his life. I do love how Dylan can also settle down well and chill and I would still consider him to be fairly “easy to manage.” The home we seek for Dylan has another welcoming and friendly, young and playful canine in the home for which people are seeking a companion and playmate. A home with some semblance of a yard is a huge plus and with people who are not collectively gone from home for long, extended hours on a regular or daily basis (and no, you do not need to be retired!). An appropriately-sized wire crate for structure and containment will help Dylan, when needed, during a transitional phase. I consider Dylan to be an inherently sweet and good-natured dog, and anyone who adopts Dylan will acquire a true sweetheart and gem. NOTE: We only adopt dogs as primarily INDOOR dogs. Dogs can go outside to play, potty, to sun themselves at will, but should never be excluded to an outside area. You do not need to give a dog the run of the entire house, and an appropriate sized wire crate works very well during a transitional phase. Dylan is neutered, fully vaccinated, Front-lined, dewormed, and micro-chipped. If you are interested in Dylan, email Angel’s Heart Dog Rescue at: adopt@angelsheartdogrescue.com. In the email, please provide some information about your home, family, other pets, and your dog experience. Please also check your spam folder for an email reply from the rescue. Felix is a happy two-year-old boy rescued from the Devore Animal Shelter. A DNA test revealed that Felix is a Parson Russell Terrier/Shih Tzu mix, with some Australian Shepherd and Rat Terrier in his line. Felix is a leggy guy that weighs about 15 or so lbs. now. An ideal weight would be 17-18 lbs., but steady meals and good care is addressing that (photos and video were done when he was first rescued, at only 14 lbs. so on the thin side). Felix has a scruffy coat, and based on that, we see him as a lower shedding dog. Felix definitely has a unique look. His body is mostly white but he has a beautiful tri-colored head and face, and eye-liner around his eyes (a Cleopatra look) so photos of him can look a bit harsh, and he is possibly cuter in person. Felix is a sensitive soul who responds best to a patient and gentle approach. He loves people and just wants to be included in daily activities and also learn new things to engage his need for mental stimulation. He gently greets visitors and has really come out of his shell during the time he has been with the rescue. He is a medium energy dog that is also content to lounge on the couch and watch T.V. with you or chill on a pet bed nearby during the day. Felix also loves other dogs. He loves to play and wrestle with his foster brother and would benefit from having a canine playmate/companion in the home. He takes his cues from other dogs and loves to go for walks together. Felix is also gentle in that he has accepted the house cats and foster kittens as part of his pack too. Like many newly adopted dogs, Felix will take some time to warm up to new people/new routine and seems slightly unsure, but once you give him time and show him, he is a great dog that will generally do well with people who will include him, play with him, and expose him to new things. Felix is crate-trained and potty-trained (however, potty reinforcement is needed in any new environment). He can use a dog door, and will also potty on walks. He will mark his yard outside, but has not leg-lifted inside, even with two other male dogs in the home. Felix is bright but does not know basic commands yet. He would benefit from a basic obedience class or from someone with dog experience who will work with him on things like “come,” “stay,” “leave it,” etc. He really wants to do the right thing, and listens, with some gentle guidance. He also loves toys, which he distributes around the house, and enjoys chasing a ball and bringing it back to you. He is not a destructive dog, and is relatively quiet. The home we seek for Felix has another well-balanced and at least semi-playful dog in the home that Felix can follow and interact with. He seems to do best with another canine to be his role model. Some type of yard is a plus but not necessarily a requirement. As noted Felix is fine with cats, so both a dog and a cat would be fine! Felix is a good dog that merely happened on a bad situation, ending up at a high-kill shelter as a community stray, and whereby we have no idea what incurred prior. But we can see clearly that he is an inherently gentle and non-aggressive dog, with many pluses, great potential, and who just needs a chance at finding a solid and loving, forever home. Gillian is a wonderful, sweet and friendly 16-17 lb. pup rescued from the Devore Shelter. The shelter marked him as age two, but I would say he is closer to one-and-a-half. Gillian is a warm dog who is very loving and likes to be near you. A DNA test revealed that Gillian is Border Collie/English Shepherd/American Eskimo mix. American Eskimo probably accounts for his smaller size, which can also be a toy version. Gillian is super adorable being all white with distinct black patches on his body and a bandit mask on his face. He has beautiful green eyes too! Know that these dogs with bandit masks can be harder to photograph, and therefore can look more harsh; I truly feel that Gillian is cuter in person and that photos have failed to show how truly adorable he is which also emanates from his charming, and sometimes shy personality. And his ears are adorable! Gillian loves all people and also all other dogs and maintains a fairly respectful and kind attitude towards all. He is a very special dog in that regard and there is something very endearing about Gillian. He does love to play with other playful dogs, enthusiastically, and he also loves to chew on a hard chew toy and rawhides, but he can also totally chill with another dog, on a pet bed, or chill by my side. When I have to lie down during the day, he jumps up with me on the bed and just cuddles. Gillian is crate-trained and potty-trained (however potty reinforcement is needed in any new environment) and he is NOT a big leg lifter outside, still being more content to squat on the lawn. He is a GREAT SIZE, not a big dog, but also not little either. As a rescuer, it is my aim to champion the cause, but also, most dogs are simply happier and more content when they have a canine companion. However, whenever I see a dependence or need, I definitely aim to accommodate that. Therefore, the home we seek for Gillian has another welcoming and friendly, at least somewhat playful pup in the home. I realize there are many wonderful dog homes out there, but I want Gillian to be at least one of two dogs at this time, and one that is at least playful or semi-playful would be a hug plus. A home with some semblance of a yard is a huge plus and with people who are not collectively gone from home for long, extended hours on a regular or daily basis (no, this does not mean you have to be retired!). An appropriately-sized wire crate for structure and containment will help Gillian, when needed, during a transitional phase. Gillian is a very special dog who is inherently sweet, good-natured and completely unaggressive, and anyone who adopts him will acquire a true sweetheart and gem. Kobe is originally from the South LA Shelter and is now living at the Downtown Dog Rescue kennel. Kobe trains every Sunday with our dog trainer. If you adopt Kobe, he comes with 6 months of weekly training sessions at our kennel plus two weeks of boarding. He walks well on leash and does not pull unless he sees a cat or small dog. He knows his basic commands, sit, down, stay and come and orients to his handler well. Kobe is very strong, but very gentle and sweet as well. Morty is 7 years old and weighs 52 pounds, is low to the ground, and is in great shape. He is the type that is not cuddly unless he knows his person very well. He is good with dogs but does not care that much about them, and would be just fine and content as the only dog. Ouija is shy with new people and takes time to warm up but is very loving and loyal as soon as he knows a person. Because of his shyness, young children are not a good match at this point. Oujia could live in a home with a yard or in an apartment since he is crate trained / house trained already and would do best in a home with another dog that is outgoing and can show him the ropes! While she does play with some dogs, we think Pookie's favorite activity would be to stare in her human's eyes and charm them until they give her love and cuddles. Pookie is low energy and would enjoy nice easy strolls around the neighborhood. SEE VIDEO ALSO ON THIS PAGE! Princess Daisy is a young adult Pit Bull who we rescued from South L.A. Shelter when she was 4 months of age. She would do best in a house with a yard as the only dog where she can exercise running around, lay in the sun and relaxing, and hang out with her owner and live an easy life! She must be a companion dog to the humans, both indoors and out. At seven years old she weighs 75 pounds and is fully grown. Princess Daisy is a beautiful dog with perfect eyeliner just like a Geisha! She is very calm and affectionate in the house and loves to lay by your feet and relax and is happy to greet every person that comes around, but will get anxious walking on leash on busy streets with people running/jogging, bicycles and skateboards coming towards her. Princess Daisy needs a confident and patient owner who will continue to work with her being out and about in the big world if that is desired, HOWEVER she would be very happy to be a “house dog” and live an easy life with you in and out of the house and go for car rides which is one of her favorite things to do, and most of all, being close to her person and getting tummy rubs! Are you a person that would enjoy giving this girl a chance to have a great life? She would love to be your one and only and she will be the most loyal and loving friend you will ever have! Princess Daisy is crate-trained, house-broken, spayed, microchipped and has had all shots including rabies and is a very healthy dog.
