KARMA RESCUE CO-SPOTLIGHT: Roxy!

ROXY!
English Bulldog, Staffordshire Bull Terrier [Mix]

Roxy was at WLA Animal Shelter when her time ran out. She was able to get out w/ the help of some of the volunteers. Unfortunately in her new situation, she became a victim of extreme neglect and ended up at a shelter in Downey Her skin condition was so bad that the volunteers who went to find her didn’t recognize her. With the help of Karma Rescue they were able to get her out, find her proper vet treatment and now she is happy and healthy!

Roxy loves to play. She is currently at a facility where she can interact with other dogs. After all she has been through, she is still a happy girl. She’s still recovering from all she has been through and continues to learn to adapt to new situations.

Pit Bulls personalities are energetic, loyal, intelligent, fun loving, and affectionate. Pit Bulls require intelligent, responsible, and dedicated leadership. Because of the breed’s undeserved negative media image, human companions living with a pit bull have to be more careful and responsible than the average human dog companion.

Roxy is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered

DDR DOGGY SNIPPETS REDUX! Amanda & Medira

AMANDA

Amanda is 4-5 year old and is about 35 lbs. She is spayed and current on all vaccinations. She is a very petite and friendly pit bull terrier. She has had a very hard life. Her original owner, a taxi driver, lost his home, and he had no choice but to keep her in his taxi and drive her around with the passengers he picked up. This worked until someone complained to the cab company. He found a neighbor in Compton with a yard who already had 15 dogs on her property. This was ok for a few weeks until Animal Control mandated that she get rid of 12 dogs, Amanda being one of the dogs.

Off she went to a poorly run kennel where she was warehoused in a tiny crate with hardly any food and dirty water. She was attacked by other dogs at this facility and as a result, suffered bite wounds to her face and muzzle. She is definitely not a fighter but had to fight for food and water at this kennel. But don’t worry, Amanda is sweet sweet sweet and she did not let this bad place change the lovely personality that she has. Animal Control began investigate the kennel and they were mandated to reduce their numbers; this is where Downtown Dog Rescue came in.

Amanda was rescued because she had no chance of a good life if we didn’t take her. Emaciated, full of fleas, a bad eye that is still being treated, she is so grateful to have food, water, a blanket and a dog house every night to sleep in. Slowly, we are teaching her to walk on a leash and allowing her to enjoy her time with our dog pack. Please consider adopting or even fostering to adopt sweet Amanda who has been to hell and back. If you are interested in meeting or adopting OR EVEN FOSTERING Amanda, please phone Sandy at: 818-407-4145 or complete an APPLICATION

PITStop Community Assist: YUKI

YUKI NEEDS A HOME!

Two teachers, Lori and Tara, who also happen to be Downtown Dog Rescue supporters, were met by students carrying a severely neglected puppy last week. “Yuki” was starving and covered in fleas and ticks. The students explained that their family didn’t like dogs and threw him in the trash. They knew that the teachers liked dogs, so brought Yuki to them after they found him thrown away like garbage.

After a bath, Yuki is feeling and looking much better! He is a gorgeous furry white lab mix with beautiful green eyes! Lori the teacher has already gotten him vaccinated. Currently, he is about 10 pounds, but will probably be a medium to large sized dog.

He is great with kids, other dogs, and cats.

ANIMAL WELFARE COMMUNITY: Southgate 67 Success Story! LOVE RULES!! Petey & LisaMarie

SOUTHGATE 67
DONT GOT NOTHING ON PETEY!
HE’S LIVING LIFE AND LOOKING FOR A HOME TO PERMANENTLY CALL HIS OWN

For all of you PETEY fans that have been following Petey’s progress, his foster mom, LisaMarie has a new update! Petey’s ready to be adopted! It’s been a LONG ROAD TO HEALTH for Petey but he’s done it with a lot of love and care from Lisa Marie. What’s Petey’s whole story?
Read on…

DDR: How did you find out about Petey’s situation?
LISA MARIE: I received an urgent phone call from a woman in Canada who had been referred to me. She told me on the phone that she had no place else to turn, and that she had a dog she had boarded at Marc De Luna’s kennels, and she thought she recognized the dog on a movie clip of the South Gate Raid. Someone had told her Petey was dead, but if there was a chance he survived, I felt obligated to help get him out. I needed to know how he got in there, and where he originally came from: She told me she originally pulled him from death row in a Reno, Nevada shelter. After she had rescued him, she had no place to keep him – he was free without a place to be. She asked for advice from her LA rescue connections, where she was given Marc’s kennels as a good boarding facility so this is where Petey was checked into, but he was never checked out. Bark Avenue offered to temporarily care for some of the dogs to help Seaaca Downey shelter, where most of the dogs were taken who survived, and the owner of Bark confirmed Petey was not at her facility. So I went to Downey, after the lady from Canada agreed to send me everything I needed to go and officially free him, and have him in my care.

THE FAMILY DOG: What To Do If Your Dog Is Missing or Stolen!

by Debbie Fan

What To Do If Your Dog Is Missing or Stolen!
A dog trainer friend of mine, Karen Reardon Taylor, just sent a success story from one of her clients whose dog was stolen. This is a great story with lots of useful information and may help you if your dog is ever missing.
—–
“A note from Danielle and Brooklyn”
Thank you so much for all of your support, efforts, and prayers while my little girl was gone. I got her back after 28 and 1/2 hours on Saturday night at 9:30 pm. It took what felt like a village to get her back, and it took me being a relentless detective to bring her home, but it was well worth it. I wanted to share with all of you what happened, because I think it could help anyone who has lost or had a pet stolen.
After some serious PI work, I found out that there were 4 witnesses that had seen Brooklyn get taken from right outside my apartment front doors. They were kind enough to provide me with the details of what had happened, and a very detailed description of the woman who took her. They also said that they would provide a statement to the police and could positively identify her if they saw her again.
So with that information, I went to the police station and filed a police report. I learned that if anyone finds a dog, collar or no collar, you have 6 hours to bring that animal to an animal shelter to have it scanned for a microchip and document it as a found dog. You do not have to relinquish the dog to the shelter, but it does need to be reported properly. If you fail to do so within those 6 hours, it automatically becomes a crime and is considered stolen property. If the animal is valued at over $400.00 or you have proof that you have spent at least that amount of money on the dog, it then becomes Grand Theft and a felony!!!

With this information, I re-made all of my “missing” posters to “Stolen Dog” posters and put in bold letters on them, that a police […]

PITStop Community Assist: Tiger REDUX – Meeting Cats

NEW VIDEO: Tiger Meeting CATS!!

AN EXTRA SPECIAL PLEA:
LORI WEISE WILL PERSONALLY DONATE
$200 to a 501(C)(3)rescue to pull TIGER

FROM: NICOLE SALTER

Hi all,
I’ve been visiting this dog at WLA 4x a week for 2 months. While getting the most urgent ones out, he sits there modestly behind his bars, not barking and just being the little Pei mix that he is. He’s not overly animated but will PLAY PLAY PLAY when in the yard. I’ve had Pei Mixes and this is how they are….and they are the most understated GEMS. And they get overlooked. Just like Tiger is getting overlooked. The shelter neutered him so they consider him VERY adoptable…..Debbie Fan has worked with him a lot and takes him to mobile adoptions so she’d be able to tell you a lot about his personality and temperament. The WLA Shelter uses him as their “test” dog w/females since he’s so good with them.
Tiger is a great little dog and he will be an amazing companion….he needs to get out.
