FRIDAY SHOUT OUTS – Giving Thanks!
Here are our DDR Shout Outs for January 29, 2010:
THANK YOU AMANDA FOUNDATION!
===
Feature for the week: EFFIE CHANG
I think I started last year around June.
2) Is there a DDR dog that has been adopted that you still think about?
There’s actually quite a few. Sherman – his face is just unforgettable. Charlie – very sweet. China – very sweet also. Nike and Baby – these 2 siblings are the best. Mini/Cookie – I had her for 2 weeks but because of opposition from my Dad, I was unable to keep her. But she is in good hands; I know Rosalie will take good care of her. And to be honest, I think of all of them, and hope that they are happy and well taken care of in their new homes.
3) How did you hear about DDR?
Through my therapist.
4) How many pets do you have?
I had a Sheltie and a Siamese, both passed away of old age. At present, […]
DEB’S DOG OF THE WEEK: Agility Dog! SASHA
I’ve been taking my shelter dog, Dante, to agility class for the past year. For those of you that don’t know, agility is a sport where the dog and owner have to maneuver a series of obstacles as a team. The obstacles can include jumps, ramps, weave poles, and tunnels. It’s been a great way for Dante and I to have fun and strengthen our relationship. It’s even helped him get over some growly dog issues he’s had.
As I was driving home from class tonight I couldn’t get Sasha, a DDR dog, out of my mind. Sasha would be the PERFECT agility dog! She’s athletic, focused, motivated, and is a wonderfully balanced dog. (This is one of Lori’s “go to” dog testers when introducing new dogs to the pack.) Sasha’s been with Lori for about two years now. Before that she was with another rescue, and before that, the East Valley shelter. That’s a lot of bouncing around for a young dog! And that seems to be the only “problem” with her…she has a lot of energy and bounces around. Sasha would thrive in a sport like agility! High-energy dogs need a place to channel their energy and agility is a great combination of physical and mental stimulation.
Ok, so maybe you’re thinking, “but I don’t want to do agility, so maybe Sasha isn’t the right dog for me.” Not so fast. While Sasha’s athleticism and brains make her a great candidate for agility or other dog sports, Sasha would be perfectly happy going to the dog park, hiking, running, or going on long walks. She is a great dog that is ready for a forever home. And you never know, she just might inspire you to give agility a try.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW DDR Dog Alum Spotlight : RUDY!
Edie lived with our family for eleven long years. When we were told that she had extensive lung cancer, and would have to be put down the next day, to say that we were devastated would be an understatement. We walked around in a daze for weeks – two to be exact – until it dawned on us that the only way our family was going to recover from this loss, would be to adopt another dog.
I sat down to write a letter to online adoption services. Edie was a rescue, and a pit-mix, and although age, size, color and breed didn’t really matter to us, what did matter was demeanor; we have two little boys ages 3 and 5, as well as a thirteen year old cat. I included this in my letter, along with the fact that I could not, under any circumstances adopt an aggressive dog. The responses were few and far between, and the ones that I did receive told me that they didn’t ‘know’ their dogs well enough to say how they would behave with young children.
I then received a response from DDR, telling me to call Lori, which I did straight away. She told me that there was a dog I should meet…his name was Rudy. Rudy’s family’s home was in foreclosure, and when they were unable to take him upon moving, they tied him up in the yard and left him there. He waited…and waited, but they never returned. Lori received a picture of Rudy waiting in front of his house and went to get Rudy that same day.
We piled in the car and went to DDR. Rudy was big – and mellow. In retrospect I think he was just indifferent to people (besides Lori) for fear […]
