Oklahoma man jailed for breaking dog out of pound

HYDRO, Okla. — An elderly Oklahoma man landed himself in jail after using bolt cutters to break his prized pooch from the pound.

Instead of paying a $100 fine for not having his poodle on a leash, 73-year-old Edwin Fry of Hydro decided to bust Buddy Tough out. Authorities say Fry drove his lawnmower to the city pound Oct. 13 and broke into the cage with bolt cutters. The pair were intercepted by police.

Officer Chris Chancellor told The Oklahoman newspaper that police had received numerous complaints about Buddy Tough, who had been in the pound before. He says Fry had been told he could retrieve the dog and sort out the fine in court.

Fry spent several days in jail and faces a municipal charge of allowing an animal to run at-large. Buddy Tough was euthanized while Fry was in jail.

Understanding that there is a pack mentality is just the beginning of understanding
your dog.

Discover this and much more…
discover The Fouché Way.

ABOUT THE FOUCHÉ WAY
Problems arise in or out of your home when there is a breakdown in the pack hierarchy.

This will lead your dog to display unacceptable behavior: destruction, aggression, or fear. These behaviors can move from in the home to out of the home creating limitations for you and your dog. Just as human behavior is a form of communication, so to is your dogs. Your dog is trying to tell you something. Its up to you to listen.

The Fouché Way will teach you to listen. It will teach you to establish a hierarchy with your dog through a direct connection. This connection is unspoken, you will learn to connect on with your dog, creating a clear connection between dog and owner that can be used in any situation.

By focusing on your dog’s mental energy and understanding your dog’s natural instincts, the Fouché Way will bring you to a better understanding of your dog and both you and your dog will be happier because of it.

Downtown Dog Rescue’s Top Pit, Clancy is appealing to you to join his Dog Pack and walk proudly beside him and Lori for the mile-long hike along the Santa Monica Pier on Sunday, September 19th, 2010 at 8:30 in the morning.
Other than the yearly calendar donations, STRUT YOUR MUTT is really DDR’s only self-organized fundraiser. The money we raise from this walk ($30 walker fee per dog/max 2 dogs per person) will go towards rescuing more pit bulls from the South LA shelter.
So, please support this fundraising venture, walk with us, give from your heart and encourage others to choose Downtown Dog Rescue (Team Clancy) when they register. Bring the family! Children under 12 are free.
As one of the designated BEST FRIENDS NETWORK CHARITY, 100% of all registration fees raised under DDR-Team Clancy will go directly to us.
If you cannot join us on September 19th, there is still an opportunity to sponsor Team Clancy for $20 and you get a t-shirt on top of that!

We will be setting up 1 more subTEAM in the next couple of weeks which should bring us to a total of 3 walking TEAMS under the DDR banner! Stay tuned as we set those up and identify our Team Captains.
It will be a wonderful day in Santa Monica with good friends (both canine and human!)coming together to raise funds for rescue work that will benefit the adoptable pit bulls that end up in the South LA shelter facility.

PITStop SUPPORTS COMMUNITY ART MAKING:Skid Row Community Mural destroyed

The Skidrow Community Mural created in 2008, which took hundreds of hours, or eight artist and hundreds of community residents, friends and supporters was destory in a few hours by a ” new church”!

Speaking with the Pastor, he said, ” He did not want it there”! It was just that simple to him. It did not make any different to him that this ” mural ” spoke to the community and spoke for the community. It was part of our ” skid row culture “. It represented community pride and respect.

People came from all over Los Angeles County and as far as London, England to see this community mural. In the interview with this pastor, he acknowledged that he ” read the wall”…but it is not what he wants the community to know. He has a new vision for Skid Row.

Over and over, the skid row neigborhood has said, people from “outside the community” continuously want to tell us ” what we need “. They continue to turn a deaf ear to what we want. This is nothing new.

The one thing that was strange to me was his comment, ” I want to part of the community “…how can one be part of the community, if they don’t listen to the community?

So, we are the process of reproducing the photographs of OPERATION FACE-LIFT/ SKID ROW COMMUNITY MURAL for awhile, just to remind everyone of its beauty and why it was so important to us.

As so, Skid Row San Julian Street Website will be the beginning website revealing some of the photographs and videos taken during the 2008 campaign to ” bring back the pride and show the culture of Skid Row.

THE FAMILY DOG: Pets In Hot Cars

(click on graphic above for an enlarged view of document)
102o!
On an 85o day, it only takes ten minutes for the
inside of your car to reach 102o even when the windows
have been left open an inch or two.
Within 30 minutes, a car’s interior can reach 120o. When
the temperature outside is a pleasant 70o the inside of
your car may be as much as 20 degrees hotter.
Shade offers little protection on a hot day and moves with
the sun. Pets most at risk for hyperthermia (overheating):
young animals, elderly animals, overweight animals,
those with short muzzles and those with thick or
dark-colored coats.
A Form of Cruelty—Literally
Many states and local governments have laws that
prohibit leaving an animal unattended in a motor vehicle
under dangerous conditions, which include hot days.
Under these laws, police, animal control agents, peace
officers and others may be authorized to enter by
whatever means necessary to remove the animal. You
could have your car damaged, be charged with a crime,
and fined or imprisoned. It’s not worth it—don’t leave
your pet in the car!
Please leave your
pet at home in hot
weather!
If your dog is overcome by the heat
Bring down body temperature by soaking the animal in
cool (not ice) water, but make sure water does not get
into the mouth or nose of an unconscious animal. Seek
immediate veterinary care.
HOT WEATHER TRAVELING TIPS
• Get a veterinary checkup before traveling and make
sure you have the necessary vaccination certificates
for the area you will be visiting, as well as flea and
tick treatments.
• Carry a gallon thermos of cold water or bring along
a two-liter plastic bottle of water you froze the
night before.
• Exercise your pet during the coolest parts of the day
(dawn and dusk), and never immediately following
a meal.
• Hot asphalt and tar can burn sensitive paw pads.
Walk your pet on grass or dirt when possible.
• Provide shade when your pet is outside on a hot day.
Overheating Kills!
DON’T PUT YOUR PETS IN DANGER

ANIMAL WELFARE COMMUNITY: BOYCOTT the CIRCUS!

Did anyone see this off the 10 fwy? It’s where the 10 and 110fwy’s meet at the Pico exit (Staples Center exit) I think it means the Circus isn’t welcome in Downtown L.A.
