Hello everyone, I’m Simon!
Thank you so much for raising $400 for DDR
through Robin’s Birthday wish!!!!
We were so excited to get the news!!!!!!

Here is our latest OPERATION SAFETY NET success story
as told by
my rescuer and founder of DDR, Lori Weise!

TASHA AND SHEBA
Tasha has lived on Skid Row since 1998. She has always known Sheba but recently became her official owner after her last owner picked dope over his dog. Every night, Tasha would dress Sheba up in her pajamas, keeping her warm and comfortable, especially now that she has slight hip problems.

Sheba getting ready for bed in Skid Row

They go everywhere together, everyday until someone accused Sheba of biting them and Animal Control took her away two weeks ago. Tasha lost all, hope did not contact me and I couldn’t find her. Central City East Security Team and Downtown Dog Rescue worked together to locate Tasha, set up a time and date to pick her up and go get her baby. The day was today at 11:00AM. When Sheba saw Tasha for the first time at the shelter, she barked and cried out so loud, it was so joyous!

Tasha & Sheba

Tasha had no ID and actually no proof other than my word that Sheba is her dog, but who would doubt it? Sheba is an 11 year old Rottie-ShepX who is a bit of a grouchy old lady who has roamed the streets of Skid Row leash free all her life. Since I’ve known her, after spaying her about 8 years ago, she has had 3-4 owners, Tasha being the best! Now, after a long talk with Tasha today, she told me that she wants to go home to her mom in Las Vegas and Sheba can come.

I will speak to mom to see how serious the offer is, I’m hoping it’s all good and if Sheba can go with her, we will look for a volunteer to drive the two home, a real home with 5 bedrooms and a back yard in Las Vegas instead of the sidewalk where they sleep with rats and predatory people watching their every move, as she told me today, “It gets exhausting”. Imagine never letting your guard down, or if you doze off for a minute, someone steals your only pair of shoes. There is a lot of really good and wonderful hearted people on Skid Row but there are also a lot of predatory addicts who will steal and harm anyone for their dope.

We will keep you posted about Tasha and Sheba who regardless will become Tasha’s service dog next week for a medical condition that will never be cured.

Your donations will help many more TASHA’s and SHEBA’s!!!! Thank you!!!

What is Downtown Dog Rescue’s OPERATION SAFETY NET?

Downtown Dog Rescue started Operation Safety Net to keep more dogs out of the South LA Shelter. We believe if you offer dog owners alternatives to leaving their dog at the shelter, some will take the opportunity to get their dog spay/neutered and vaccinated FREE, dog training and dog food FREE = minor medical assistance such as mange, ear infections, and other skin conditions, as well as helping the low income dog owner repair a fence or gate to keep the dog inside the yard. We operate a hotline for shelter support 24/7. Dog owners do have alternatives, they just need to give us a call. We also help re-home dogs and take in dogs at our kennel facility in Downtown Los Angeles. This great program has now taken over 2000 calls to date and still going strong! If you would like to keep Operation Safety Net going…please consider donating to this wonderful project!
