Subject: LAAS shelter dogs want you to go “Bed-A-buy”
Hello Friends and Animal Lovers,
A few weeks ago during the record rainfalls, a volunteer helped raise funds for dog beds at East Valley shelter (one of six LA city shelters). Because of the design of the shelters, the dogs are inadequately protected from the rain and forced to lay on cold, wet blankets or concrete. The beds have proven to be a huge success and we’ve started a campaign to buy beds for ALL the LA city shelters that have this same problem.
Please read Sherry’s plea below and consider donating to our cause and see why these beds are not only going to protect dogs from the elements when it rains, but provide comfort throughout every season!
Even if you can’t donate, please pass this message along.

Thank you!

Dear Friends,
A few weeks ago, I sent out a plea for donations to purchase Perla Beds** for the dogs in the East Valley Animal Shelter, who are in kennels that are unprotected from the weather elements, especially rain. Thanks to the many people who contributed to the cause, 79 beds were delivered last week and placed in as many kennels (there are approximately 200 kennels total). A campaign is underway to purchase lots more (presently for the East Valley, Harbor, West L.A. & North Central shelters).
It’s not raining now, you might say. However, the photos I took when I returned to the shelter to see if the dogs were enjoying them speak volumes – Perla Beds may also provide a comfort zone for dogs that are distressed from having to “exist” in a cement, noise-filled environment.
So that alldogs entrusted to L.A.’s city animal shelters can have a bed where they can curl up and feel safe and secure, Shelter Animal Advocacy Fund, Los Angeles (SAAFLA) has set up a Chip-In account (the link is below) for donations to help purchase Perla Beds. At least 180 Perla Beds at $25 each, not including shipping, should be available for purchase on Jan. 14 from the company that sold the first 79 beds. We are hoping to reach our “Phase 1” goal and purchase ALL of them! As more beds become available, we will continue to purchase them, as long as we have funds available.
SAAFLA is a 501c3 non-profit group, and all donations are deductible to the fullest extent allowable by law. You will receive a receipt from Paypal and Chip-In, and if your donation is more than $250, the group will send a supplementary receipt.
Give what you can, but please give. Help us reach our goal by January 14, 2011! (Donations will be accepted after this date.)
If you prefer to donate by check (add “shelter beds” in memo) please mail to:

Thank you,

**Perla Beds are made of a strong molded plastic that have high sides to protect from drafts, and rounded edges for a dog to rest its head on. Vents in the raised floor allow heat to radiate from the floors and when it’s time to clean the bed, water will not accumulate.
