PICO

Pico was rescued by the Heigl Foundation from a dog hoarding situation in South LA. The woman running the kennel was capturing pit bulls off the street and taking them out of the South LA shelter on days that had reduced fees. Pico originally came from the South LA shelter. He was neutered and vaccinated but became very unwanted one he came to the horrible kennel because he wasn’t, in their words, “tough enough”. There was only one plan for Pico, allow him to be attacked by the other dogs until he, like many of the other male pit bulls, disappeared to go into a life of fighting or die by way of a slow painful death from dog fighting injuries. Luckily for Pico he made it out thanks to the Heigl Foundation. He is now a big strong happy healthy boy who is still be leash trained. He is a stubborn boy who is learning how to walk and not jump on people. He is still young, under 3 years. If you are an experienced pit bull or power breed person, Pico might be a good match. No other male dogs in the home, no cats and only intermediate and advanced dog owners should consider Pico unless you plan to work closely with a knowledgeable trainer. Pico is a good dog who is so deserving of a second chance in life. He weighs about 65lbs, has been neutered and is current on his vaccinations.

CHARLIE

Charlie is a beautiful 5-6 year old American Pit bull Terrier. As you can see from the scars on his muzzle, his life has not been easy. He was originally “rescued” by a dog hoarder who ran a horrible kennel in South LA. Once he arrived at the kennel, he was chained up 24/7 and other male dogs attacked him brutally. Charlie survived so much to be rescued by the Heigl Foundation. Amazingly, Charlie is not dog aggressive but would do best in a home with a female companion, no cats please. He is pretty mellow and would appreciate a nice dog bed in the sun while you are at work, a walk when you get home and then dinner time and bed. There is no a lot of mystery to how to make Charlie happy. He is a very sweet boy who is now leash trained although we still use a prong collar to walk this very powerful boy. He weighs about 70lbs, has been neutered and is current on his vaccinations. If you love this breed, you are going to love Charlie.

GINGER

Ginger is a young pit bull terrier mix who is very affectionate with everyone she meets. She is a small dog, around 40lbs, is ok with other dogs and loves people! She was rescued by the Heigl Foundation from a dog hoarding kennel situation in South LA. She had no hope of ever getting adopted at this horrible kennel, sitting day after day in the dark with her kennel mates, no one cleaned her run and at best she was fed every third day. Just the taste of clean water, a good meal seven days a week and a nice walk keeps Ginger happy. She was originally a stray on the streets of South Central LA when she was captured by the dog hoarder and brought into the kennel from hell. Please consider giving this wonderful girl a real home. Ginger has been spayed and is current on her vaccinations.

APACHE

Apache is an older Dobe mix, possibly with some sort of Shepherd. He has had a very rough life. He might be as old as ten years, difficult to know for sure. When the Heigl Foundation rescued him from a very poorly run kennel that was more of a hoarding situation in South LA, he was starving to death. He weighed about 35lbs and he could barely walk he was so weak. Somehow, he survived that kennel after being dropped off by his former owner who thought that he was doing Apache a favor by not taking him to the shelter. Little did he know that his dog would soon be another victim of this kennel from hell, where over 100 dogs suffered until a lot were rescued. Apache was one of the lucky ones. We don’t know his whole history for sure but we do know that he is very forgiving. He loves people, not so great with male dogs, could definitely live with a nice submissive female dog but no cats. Please consider opening your heart and home to this very deserving dog who has literally lived at death’s door. Apache is about 75lbs, has been neutered is current on his vaccinations and walks well on a leash.
