This is a courtesy listing for another rescue group. PLEASE READ ENTIRE BIO BEFORE CONTACTING RESCUE. To inquire about this dog, you do not need to press any special buttons on this website. Send a regular e-mail to Janet Cook at: adopt@angelsheartdogrescue.com. Please provide some information about your home, family, other pets, and your dog experience. Angel’s Heart Dog Rescue is a private, foster home based rescue. There is an application process that precedes meeting a dog. I answer emails quickly. Thank you! Bernardo is a wonderful dog, super sweet, very friendly, quiet, and easy going. My best guess is that Bernardo is more accurately a Jack Russell/Chihuahua or Rat Terrier mix, mixed with some Pug, rather than a “Cheagle” as stated in the video. He is a super cute dog that is mostly white with some tan spotting around his ears and face, and his “pouty” mouth (that makes me think “Pug”) just adds to his adorable, yet unique look. He is a great size, about 13-15 lbs. Bernardo gets along with all other dogs here at the rescue and is completely non-aggressive towards humans. He is crate-trained and potty-trained, and sleeps quietly in his little wire crate by my bed, enjoying his rawhide stick as a bedtime treat. He gives me zero problems whatsoever, and I would consider him a very easy-to-manage dog. He loves to quietly follow me everywhere; other times, he just chills on a pet bed somewhere even if I am elsewhere in the house. Typically though, Bernardo loves to be near and if I am working in the office, he is in there, on a pet bed, with the pack, or, if I am laying down on the human bed during the day watching T.V. or just chilling, he is a great cuddle bug and/or companion, never bothersome, lying very still just loving being near. I equally enjoy him being near because he is so quiet and mellow about it and not in my face or constantly seeking attention. In short, Bernardo has a very laid-back personality and I find him to be a joy to have around, and very relaxing to my spirit. Bernardo’s back story is a sad one. He was rescued from the Devore Shelter 4 ½ years ago, at the age of two, by myself, this rescuer, only to be adopted out to a family who I presumed would represent his forever home. The family also had another dog, a middle aged Dachshund, and the design was for the two dogs keep each other company while husband and wife were at work. In the meet and greet, the wife felt that Bernardo “chose her” and it was love at first sight, and during this “nesting period” Bernardo was loved and included within the family, until the wife had a (human) child. Additionally, the husband began to have an increase in his adult allergies, becoming more and more disinclined to touch Bernardo or have contact with him. So two and a half years ago, the wife wanted to return Bernardo to the rescue, but ultimately, she could not go through with it. Fast forward to the present, she is now expecting another child, and the entire anticipation of having another baby is causing her to stress excessively once again. Meanwhile, hubby’s allergies have continued to rise. In short, Bernardo had to leave his home of four and a half years, and come back to the rescue. But the main thing that bothers me is that he really did not seem to have the love or contact that he deserved in this home. The family was disinclined to let him cuddle or be near, which is what Bernardo longs for and loves! So he was separated from human connection. It is now my hope to find Bernardo a "forever home” where he CAN cuddle and be near. I now want a home that is not opposed to having a small dog up on the bed or furniture. No, you do not have to let him sleep with you at night. He can sleep in his little crate. But during the day, when the humans are just hanging out, I do not want a home where he is kicked off the bed or couch because that is the home he came from. I ENJOY Bernardo on my bed with me during the day (I suffer from a health condition so need to lie down a lot) or on the couch if I am sitting there. Even if an adopter has to put a separate blanket down for Bernardo, that would be a way to accommodate him. He is a VERY EASY dog to have around, and a GREAT COMPANION DOG to any human or for another dog! An easy dog like him that causes no problems and brings no stress to the household is always a great find! Bernardo has no behavioral issues whatsoever, no aggression, or anxiety, no separation issues (he is great in the crate when I leave); he is just an all-around great dog that would love to go on errands with you and little walks around the neighborhood and be your best pal! Bernardo is now the age of 6 ½. This is NOT old for a small dog that can easily live to be the age of 15 or even older. His teeth are in great shape and he does not need a dental at present. The best home for Bernardo is one that will allow him to be near, allows cuddling, does not prohibit small dogs from getting up on beds or furniture, and one with another dog to keep him company, if folks are gone from home a bit (as that is what he is used to in his former home), or as an only dog, not being left all alone for long, extended periods on a daily basis (and no, you do not need to be retired). NOTE: We only adopt dogs as primarily INDOOR dogs. Dogs can go outside to play, potty, to sun themselves at will, but should never be excluded to an outside area. You do not need to give a dog the run of the entire house, and a crate is good for a transitional phase. Bernardo is neutered, fully vaccinated (including rabies), Front-lined, dewormed, micro-chipped, and has also had a recent health check. If you are interested in discussing Bernardo, please contact Angel’s Heart Dog Rescue at: adopt@angelsheartdogrescue.com. The phone number to the rescue is: 626-340-9316. There is no need to phone the rescue unless you do not receive a response from your email. Courtesy Listing! Please contact Southern California Dachshund Relief at: Dena@SCDR.org and not the rescue group associated with this page. The best (and preferred) method of contact for quick response is by way of e-mail. Please read the dogs’ entire bio before contacting rescue. Penelope (a.k.a. Penny) is a 5 year old, 11 pound Dachshund mix. Her former owner just did not have time for a dog any longer, as work hours became long and Penny was not getting the level of attention she so richly deserved. Check out those adorable white slippers on her toes and the cute white tip on her tail. We love her coloring. Penelope is house trained. She will need a home with a dog door and access to a secure yard to continue reinforcing her good potty habits. Fencing must be at least 5 feet tall. This little girl can leap like a kangaroo! Penelope is extremely friendly and loves everyone she meets. She’d be great with an active family with gentle children over 8 years old, and someone to throw her ball for her. She would love to have a young canine playmate to play with. She loves other small dogs. Penelope is very pretty with fur that is soft and plush. Her heritage is Dachshund/Aussie mix. She is not a barker, plays with toys, and wants to sleep in the big bed with her people. People living in two-story homes are encouraged to apply for Penelope. Stairs are not an issue for this dog. Penelope needs someone who is home most of the time so she can get the attention and training she needs to be a canine good citizen. Penelope’s vaccines are up-to-date and she has been microchipped. If you are interested in Penelope, please complete our online adoption application, and contact Dena (562) 694-6868 or email Dena@SCDR.org.

Courtesy Listing! Please contact Southern California Dachshund Relief at: Dena@SCDR.org and not the rescue group associated with this page. The best (and preferred) method of contact for quick response is by way of e-mail. Please read the dogs’ entire bio before contacting rescue. Lucky, a 17 pound, 18 month-old male, was found stray and taken in by a Good Samaritan. He was infested with fleas, filthy, like he’d been on the streets a long time. She took him to the vet and had him scanned, but he had no microchip. She gave him a bath, treated him for fleas, and fed him a hearty meal. He was very hungry and cleaned his bowl. She had no way to keep him in her “no pets” residence, so she asked Southern California Dachshund Rescue to take him in. In the Asian culture, the number 4 is considered a very lucky number. When we assigned a rescue tag, the next one available was number 4444, so we named him Lucky. We believe Lucky is a Lab/Dachshund mix. He has short legs and a long body of the dachshund, but his face, fur, and ears are that of a small Labrador Retriever. He is extremely intelligent and a fast learner. Lucky is crate-trained. He is getting a crash course in house training and doing quite well as long as he is taken outside on a schedule along with having access to the yard with a dog door. He is affectionate, silly, playful, and healthy. He needs a home with another dog that can teach him dog manners and mentor in proper dog etiquette. We recommend attending puppy obedience classes as soon as possible as well, to ensure proper socialization and respect with humans. Applicants will need the following qualifications: • Someone at home most of the day, stay-at-home moms or folks who work from home. • Previous dog experience is a plus, but not essential. • A mature (not old) female dog for mentoring, play, and companionship. • A very secure INDOOR place for Lucky to be when no one is at home. • Applicants must be between 30 and 66 years of age. • No infants or toddlers, please, but we will consider families with children over 8 years old. • Lucky is a love-sponge with his people, however, no cats. He has a strong hunting instinct. Lucky is neutered, fully vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped. If you can give Lucky the type of home he needs, please contact Dena at (562) 694-6868 or email Dena@SCDR.org. An adoption application and home check are required.

Courtesy Listing! Please contact Southern California Dachshund Relief at: Dena@SCDR.org and not the rescue group connected to this page. The best (and preferred) method of contact for quick response is by way of e-mail. Please read the dog’s entire bio before contacting the rescue. Nugget, an 8 pound, 2-year-old female, was rescued by Southern California Dachshund Rescue as a stray. Nugget is definitely a Dachshund mix; we are guessing mixed with a small terrier judging by the size and shape of her head and ears. However, her stature and body and tail are all Dachshund. Nugget is house-trained (however potty reinforcement is suggested in any new environment) and she has been crate-trained, though she much prefers to hang out on the living room sofa or sleep in the big bed with her people. Nugget is a high-energy dog, and needs someone who likes going for walks, hiking, maybe the beach, in other words, regular activities where she can apply her energy . A young, active male dog would be a most welcome attribute to the home we choose for her (she can be pushy with other females). She loves to play-wrestle and to disembowel stuffed toys, killing the squeaker, then shaking the snot out of them to be sure they are really “dead.” She has a strong prey-drive, so no cats please. Nugget is a “Houdini Weenie.” She can scale a 3-foot baby-gate effortlessly (which is probably how she ended up lost and then in rescue in the first place). Fences and gates need to be at least 4 feet tall (no wrought-iron railing, as she can squeeze her body through in-between the rails). With her energy level, she needs a young family that will give her regular outlets towards her energy. The ideal home for Nugget would have the following: • Someone at home most of the day, stay-at-home moms/dads or folks who work from home. • Previous dog experience is a plus. • Another small dog (male) for play and companionship. • A very secure INDOOR place for Nugget to be when no one is at home (a crate is preferred). • Applicants must be between 25 and 66 years of age. • No infants or toddlers, please, but we will consider families with gentle children over 8 years old. Nugget is spayed, fully vaccinated, and microchipped, and is ready for a new home. If you can provide the type of home she needs, please contact Dena at (562) 694-6868 or email Dena@SCDR.org. An adoption application and home check are required.

Jax is part playful, part sleepyhead, part affectionate, and a part independent. He will say hello in the morning, and go about his playing independently, taking a nap or watching out the window. He has learned how to entertain himself quite well. If you are looking for a cat that is independent, yet would love to play with his human in the evening and relax by your side, he may be the one for you. Jax does not really understand how to socialize with other cats. Although he currently lives in a home with 2 senior pit bulls and another foster cat, his foster feels he would prefer to be the only cat in his adoptive home. He has a large white chest and perky ears; he's darling. Bruno is a mature adult dog at 8 years old. When Bruno was a young puppy he lived at Downtown Dog Rescue when it was just a parking lot and two volunteers. He was a very happy dog who was quickly adopted. Sadly, his owner passed away and he is back at our kennel. A little older and wiser, he is again looking for a home. Bruno lives at our kennel in South Gate. He came back to us a little out of shape, too many treats, plus, he went through ACL surgery. Because of the extra pressure this created on his opposite leg, Bruno has to take it easy. No long hikes or dog parks for this guy. He needs a simple life with someone to love who will give him some snuggles, short walks and a super soft bed. He is a very sweet boy who will be easy to manage. He does not mind other dogs but prefers to have his human all to himself! He would do well in most homes with no small children or other pets. Bruno lived with a dog sibling most his life, but now that he is older he wants to relax and be the only dog. We cannot blame him! Meet Peter! Peter is a pit bull mix (possibly mixed with Boxer) who was found wandering the streets of Lancaster, California. When a Good Samaritan approached Peter with half a treat and bowl of water, he went right to them, ate the treat, drank the water and willingly walked with them to their car. He knew he was safe that day and was so happy that he was not wondering the streets anymore. The Good Samaritan took Peter to the vet and found out that he had a microchip. When Peter’s previous owner was contacted, they indicated that they did not want Peter back. Essentially, they had abandoned Peter. Peter knows basic commends (seat, stay, etc.) and he is quick learner. He is house-trained and will let you know if needs to go to the bathroom. Peter loves getting attention, giving kisses and getting a massage. He is a gentle dog with people and loves to be where his people are. Peter loves to go on walks, but he is very strong and is learning not to pull. Peter would do best in an active household as an only dog. He is about age 5 and weighs about 65 lbs. Peter is located in Ontario, California. He is already neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on his vaccinations. Meet the stunning looking Morty, who we call Morty-Snorty as he snorts a lot. He walks perfectly on leash and is the type dog you can walk in any metropolitan areas and he is quiet and calm. Morty is 7 years old and weighs 52 pounds, is low to the ground, and is in great shape. He is the type that is not cuddly unless he knows his person very well. He can get very unsure if people push him to pet and hug so is best suited in a one person household that is a low stress environment as a companion dog. He is good with dogs but does not care that much about them, and would be just fine and content as the only dog. He loves to go for walks and tag along for car rides and is a dog that needs a laid back, easy-going lifestyle and hanging out with his person. Morty is already neutered, up-to-date with shots, micro-chipped and house-trained. SEE VIDEO ALSO ON THIS PAGE! Princess Daisy is a young adult Pit Bull who we rescued from South L.A. Shelter when she was 4 months of age. She would do best in a house with a yard as the only dog where she can exercise running around, lay in the sun and relaxing, and hang out with her owner and live an easy life! She must be a companion dog to the humans, both indoors and out. At seven years old she weighs 75 pounds and is fully grown. Princess Daisy is a beautiful dog with perfect eyeliner just like a Geisha! She is very calm and affectionate in the house and loves to lay by your feet and relax and is happy to greet every person that comes around, but will get anxious walking on leash on busy streets with people running/jogging, bicycles and skateboards coming towards her. Princess Daisy needs a confident and patient owner who will continue to work with her being out and about in the big world if that is desired, HOWEVER she would be very happy to be a “house dog” and live an easy life with you in and out of the house and go for car rides which is one of her favorite things to do, and most of all, being close to her person and getting tummy rubs! Are you a person that would enjoy giving this girl a chance to have a great life? She would love to be your one and only and she will be the most loyal and loving friend you will ever have! Princess Daisy is crate-trained, house-broken, spayed, microchipped and has had all shots including rabies and is a very healthy dog.
