Dear little Magoo is patiently waiting for someone to save him and his underbite. I received word yesterday from the shelter that his time is up — and he will be put to sleep if not rescued / adopted. I’ve watched Magoo for nearly 7 weeks and each time I see him, I can’t help but smile. Looking up with those wide eyes, those funny little teeth, he’s as cute as he can be — only weighs 21 pounds. But, he’s lost in a shelter that gets in 10, 20, 30 dogs a day. Regardless of the fact that he stands up to greet everyone, wagging his tail with joy; regardless of his sweet soul, Magoo is still a number among many. Please, don’t let Magoo die. And so they do. When Kristen and I walked them last weekend, their bodies were touching nearly the entire time!!!! These two dogs are truly bonded and the best of pals. When Floyd (A1106889, 4 year old lab mix) was heading back into their kennel first —

Fitz (A1106888, 7 year old, GS mix) cried. He is the protector of his big white, fluffy friend. And Floyd is the kisser of his big smoky-colored, soft-furred friend.

Kristen and I were so moved by the relationship between this pair of dogs. It was truly amazing. And we are sure that upon meeting them, you will fall instantly in love. These guys are super affectionate, utterly handsome and very smart. They deserve a wonderful new home, together.

Baguette (A1107427, 2 years old, on alert since April 17th, for a case of demodex that is nearly gone) is a little sweetheart. When given a cat test yesterday, he shook in fear — and crawled right back into the ACT’s lap. Here’s a video (paste link into your browser, might have to click a couple of times to get it) of this bow-legged sweetheart, cuddling and prancing. No need to say more — just watch and he will surely capture your heart.

This poor baby has wounds from some previous encounter — with what we don’t know. But, it must have been awful. They are healed now and he is ready to be yours.

SKITTLES LOVES TO BE HELD AND TOUCHED AND KISSED. SHE COULDN’T BELIEVE SHE WAS OUTSIDE IN THE GRASS ONCE AGAIN.

Back in her ISO cage, Skittles (A1107639, 3 years old, doxie/chi mix, on alert as of 4/24 and needs out immediately!!!!!) waits. This angel has been kept way past her pts date because she is so darned sweet. When we open the door and peek in, her tail starts to thump and rap and tap against the metal sides. With excitement yet with serious concern, she looks up at us, pleading for her freedom.

Tests determined finally that Skittles does not have ringworm — and her fungus is disappearing at last!!! I held and petted her — and have been fine. She is not contagious. Skittles seems fine with other dogs that she has met through the bars of their cages and she sure is sweet with her people friends. Everyone loves her. Won’t you?

Buckles (A0653105, 6 years old, came in to the shelter on March 18th — so way past her time at South L.A.) is the best candidate for your job as happy dog companion. Buckles is the first lady to appear on the website now — with an early impound number indicating she was adopted / licensed years ago. There is no reason given for owner surrender. She has done all the right things — as her political status indicates. She’s been friendly with all the dogs in her kennel, taking a back seat to puppies and pits alike. She was a sweetheart at our adoption event, mild-mannered, good with kids. And, as we learned while making her video, she is SUPER PLAYFUL!!!! She caught the tennis ball that the officer was throwing — but like a politician, was clever enough not to return it without getting something back in exchange — laughs and praise.

Buckles is a perfect girl. A little bit older, a little bit wiser. She isn’t demanding — she’s devoted. And she wants to devote herself to you. Please help Buckles — she’s a cinch to win your heart.

Although momma Naomi is gone, we have not forgotten her. There is no blame with the shelter — I want to make that perfectly clear. Staff was not aware that I was networking this dog and I take responsibility for not being diligent and confirming the status. I am burdened with the sadness that remains. And it haunts me.

SOUTH LA SHELTER RESCUE ME SPOTLIGHT: Doe, Ray & Mee A1103207, 208 and 209

ONCE A SEPTET. NOW A TRIO. (all on alert)

DOE : A1103207 Initially shy but quickly becomes a little scoundrel. Stole treats out of my back pocket and scattered them on the grass for her sister and brother to enjoy. What fun they had after that!

RAY : 1103209 Ray is the super shy guy. Though the biggest of the bunch, he found a way to sneak off into the bushes and hide. His eyes are pleading for another chance.

MEE : 1103208 It’s definitely all about Mee. She’s the star of the show — though she will run and hide her big sister for protection until she’s ready to take the spotlight. Then, it’s non-stop entertainment.

Doe, Ray and Mee were part of a septet of evidence dogs that were quarantined for biting. These puppies — just 3 months old when they arrived at the shelter (now nearly 4)– were released — obviously not under suspicion. They are utterly charming, having a smidgen of timidity mixed and stirred with a gallon of of love that they are waiting to give. The timing is right for their audition. They want to forget their past and, with your help, have a fantabulous future.

SOUTH LA SHELTER RESCUE ME SPOTLIGHT: INNOCENT CLOWN

Get ready to have a ball because

this gal is a real clown,

except its not so funny when

you’re doing you’re act behind bars!

This 5 year old Dalmatian mix will keep you laughing – she was so much fun when we got her outside – a non stop gorgeous contagious smile and a spotted tail that never stopped wagging. She loves wearing props and tries to sit in your lap (she’s too big to fit).

She loves to gallop along side you, sniffing and hunting – her coat is incredible – not just the millions of spots – but it feels like velvet – it is amazing. She is just a joy to be with – and full of energy.

Sadly all that love and fun and energy is trapped in the shelter – that’s not where she belongs !!!!! We were laughing so hard we didnt even have a chance to ask her if she had a name ! Please help save this gorgeous gal – just think how your day will change when you come home to that smile (and a lampshade on her head)!
