DEB’S DOG OF THE WEEK: BRUNO

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of spending the day with Bruno. He’s a relatively new DDR dog and you may have read about him on March 8 in Lori’s Corner. As she mentioned, he arrived with some leash aggression issues that no one had anticipated when he was at the shelter. Since he’s been with the pack, Bruno has been coming along great and gets to play and socialize with all the dogs’ downtown. So it was time to see how he’d do at his first Petco adoption. Adoption events can be pretty stressful for some of the dogs. You just never know how they’ll do with all the commotion of other dogs and people coming and going.

So how did Bruno do? Well…he did OK. To be honest, it was a bit stressful for him, but what helped was to keep him moving. As long as we didn’t sit in one spot too long I was able to keep him from getting worked up. There was even a group class going on in the store, which he dealt with pretty well. Two hours was a fair amount of time for his first outing so we ended on a good note and I took him home for an overnight stay. Bruno was a perfect gentleman at the house! He was super quiet and was happy lying in his crate watching us do house work. He was also very relaxed in the backyard and he even got some playtime with Ripley.

Bruno is a young dog that shows a lot of promise to be a great companion. Yes, he has some leash issues to work out, but with a consistent leader, he’ll learn to look to his person for guidance instead of trying to figure it out on his own and be much happier because of it. If you are a strong, confident person then Bruno might be just the dog for you!
