THANK YOU FRIDAYS – Memorial for PuppyMill Mama’s

We want to take this opportunity to do a special memorial for special Mama’s in the dog rescue world…. the Puppymill mama dog’s and the backyard breeder doggy mama’s. We would like to recognize Andrea Braver, South LA shelter volunteer and the Best Friends “Puppies Aren’t Products: Los Angeles” team.

To do the honors is one of our Mama Pit’s PRECIOUS still waiting for her forever home!

First a moment of silence for all the puppy mill Mama’s that never had the chance to leave the puppymill or end up euthanized at our shelters after being tossed as unprofitable by a backyard breeder.

Precious? Are we ready?

On behalf of DDR, I would like to thank Ms. Andrea Braver, premier volunteer for the South LA Shelter for always watching out for Mamma Pits like me. She has always been very sympathetic everytime a Mamma Pit who’s ready to give birth or just recently gave birth comes into the South LA Animal Care Center and we thank her for that. Many a time, the puppies get adopted out right away BUT us Mamma Pits are most of the time left behind. So Ms. Braver, thank you so much for sending pleas on our behalf, checking on us and making sure that we are comfortable and attended to.

Ms. Andrea with Mama Pit Cecily (ADOPTED!)

We also want to recognize the work of Best Friends “Puppies Aren’t Products: Los Angeles.” It takes a whole team of wonderful people to run this program and spread the word about the awful puppymills and the stores that use them. Thank you to the awesome team doing the great work:

Jennifer Krause, Campaign Specialist, Best Friends LA
Lindsay Reeves, Sherman Oaks Team Leader
Deborah Johnson,Sherman Oaks Team Leader
Tina Clark, Glendale Team Leader
Kari Hartkorn,Brea Team Leader

Every month they hold Anti-Puppy Mill/Pro-adoption peaceful demonstrations in PuppyMill using STORES like BARKWORKS (Westside Pavilion) and PUPPY AND ME (Sherman Oaks). Please attend their peaceful demonstrations sometime soon (To volunteer, email: kimw@bestfriends.org

Please remember that many mama dogs are left in dirty kennels, are unhealthy and live in very bad conditions back in the puppymill and when this horrible practice disappears, we mama dogs will also be relieved of our suffering. For us backyard breeding mamas, we are usually dumped in the shelter once we lose our money-making capabilities. It’s a whole cycle that happens in communities every day. Please rescue dogs from the shelter and do not support puppy mill using stores or buy a dog from a backyard breeder (many pups sold on the internet can come from a puppymill or backyard breeder). We are counting on you to help us….

Gosh Precious, that was pretty serious stuff…thank you. We hope you find your forever home very, very soon.

One dog at a time with YOUR help…
See everyone next week!

Editors Note (Irene Soriano Brightman): I would like to also recognize two special Mama’s in my life-
My Mama – Sonia Suico Soriano that passed on 6/6/2010 at 7 am in the morning after a long battle with Cancer. RIP Mama, my love for dogs started with you…My little Cadi – a puppymill mama rescued from the midwest by Southern California Dachshund Rescue. She was a shy, jumpy and scared girl, when I first got her…7 years in a puppy mill, rescued 4 years ago…she is loyal and affectionate, a true gem and my treasure.
