TASHA AND SHEBA
Tasha has lived on Skid Row since 1998. She has always known Sheba but recently became her official owner after her last owner picked dope over his dog. Every night, Tasha would dress Sheba up in her pajamas, keeping her warm and comfortable, especially now that she has slight hip problems.

Sheba getting ready for bed in Skid Row

They go everywhere together, everyday until someone accused Sheba of biting them and Animal Control took her away two weeks ago. Tasha lost all, hope did not contact me and I couldn’t find her. Central City East Security Team and Downtown Dog Rescue worked together to locate Tasha, set up a time and date to pick her up and go get her baby. The day was today at […]

FRIDAY SHOUT OUTS – Giving Thanks!

It’s our favorite day of the week! FRIDAY where we give thanks to those of you who support the work we do at Downtown Dog Rescue!!!!

Helping us give thanks this week is one of the dogs that was rescued from the Southgate 67 animal cruelty case.

While Downtown Dog Rescue was not the one who adopted her out, we were one of the team cheerleaders for Roxy working hard to help her find and get her to her forever home and you know what?

She has!!!!!

Here’s Roxy hanging out at the DDR kennels one afternoon!

And here’s Roxy with her new family!!!!

Awww HAPPY DOG!

So Roxy — ready to help us out?

On behalf of my DDR, I would like to help them thank the following first responders for pledging their $30 to walk in this year’s STRUT YOUR MUTT at the Santa Monica Pier on September 19, 2010 at 8:30 AM. They all responded to Clancy’s call to walk with him and raise more money to save more South LA dogs dumped at the South LA shelter.

FRIDAY SHOUT OUTS – Giving Thanks!

After a short break, FRIDAY SHOUT OUTS is back with more thank you’s to give!

We would like to thank the awesome FOUND ANIMALS FOUNDATION for their sponsorship of the cost of vaccines for our JUNE Compton Spay/Neuter Clinics. Their sponsorship is crucial to keeping pets protected and keeping our costs down and so we are really happy that they’ve stepped up and chose to sponsor our clinic.

Well, that’s it for this week!
We’re rescuing dogs, one dog at a time!!!
With YOUR help!!!
See everyone next week!!!!!

FRIDAY SHOUT OUTS – Giving Thanks!

This Friday is a big Friday coz we’re thanking a whole bunch of awesome volunteers! Last weekend, DDR hosted our first ever Annual Pet Fair in the City of Compton!

It was fun and volunteers came out to make it one of our funnest events ever!
We know in DDR that we are nothing without our mover and shaker volunteers!!!!
Who’s more than happy to do the honors this week? It’s our dear CHLOE!!! She got adopted!!!!! Yay! So many of us at DDR and our partner rescue The Dawg Squad

were rooting for this pretty girl! And her dreams have come true! Here she is posing at the DDR Kennels wondering when it was going to be her turn to go home:

And lo and behold!!! Here she is with her new sibling Kylo in her new home!!!!!

Get up from your nap Chloe — we got thankings to do!!!

Ok—on behalf of DDR, I would like to thank my sibling Kylo and my new pack leaders, Brian and Bonnie for taking me into their home! Life’s good and I love my new purple polka-dot collar.
Next is Ms. Lori’s huge enormous thanks to all the volunteers that came out for the Pet Fair:

THANK YOU FRIDAYS – Memorial for PuppyMill Mama’s

We want to take this opportunity to do a special memorial for special Mama’s in the dog rescue world…. the Puppymill mama dog’s and the backyard breeder doggy mama’s. We would like to recognize Andrea Braver, South LA shelter volunteer and the Best Friends “Puppies Aren’t Products: Los Angeles” team.

To do the honors is one of our Mama Pit’s PRECIOUS still waiting for her forever home!

First a moment of silence for all the puppy mill Mama’s that never had the chance to leave the puppymill or end up euthanized at our shelters after being tossed as unprofitable by a backyard breeder.

Precious? Are we ready?

On behalf of DDR, I would like to thank Ms. Andrea Braver, premier volunteer for the South LA Shelter for always watching out for Mamma Pits like me. She has always been very sympathetic everytime a Mamma Pit who’s ready to give birth or just recently gave birth comes into the South LA Animal Care Center and we thank her for that. Many a time, the puppies get adopted out right away BUT us Mamma Pits are most of the time left behind. So Ms. Braver, thank you so much for sending pleas on our behalf, checking on us and making sure that we are comfortable and attended to.

Ms. Andrea with Mama Pit Cecily (ADOPTED!)

We also want to recognize the work of Best Friends “Puppies Aren’t Products: Los Angeles.” It takes a whole team of wonderful people to run this program and spread the word about the awful puppymills and the stores that use them. Thank you to the awesome team doing the great work:

Jennifer Krause, Campaign Specialist, Best Friends LA
Lindsay Reeves, Sherman Oaks Team Leader
Deborah Johnson,Sherman Oaks Team Leader
Tina Clark, Glendale Team Leader
Kari Hartkorn,Brea Team Leader

Every month they hold Anti-Puppy Mill/Pro-adoption peaceful demonstrations in PuppyMill using STORES like BARKWORKS (Westside Pavilion) and PUPPY AND ME (Sherman Oaks). Please attend their peaceful demonstrations sometime soon (To volunteer, email: kimw@bestfriends.org

Please remember that many mama dogs are left in dirty kennels, are unhealthy and live in very bad conditions back in the puppymill and when this horrible practice disappears, we mama dogs will also be relieved of our suffering. For us backyard breeding mamas, we […]

FRIDAY SHOUT OUTS – Giving Thanks!

We got a bit of thanking to very special DDR friends/supporters this week!
And we have an extra special sweetheart to do the honors —

Raising money for rescue work is a big challenge for small rescue’s like Downtown Dog Rescue. Coordinating an army of volunteers with volunteer coordinator, Sandy to help with events, errands and countless other rescue related tasks, Lori’s time is majorly impacted and thinking up ways to raise the money needed to do ALL of it is just one more thing to add to an already full plate. This is why when we get donations/support/event proceeds out of the blue, Lori and I are super elated and thankful!!!!!!!

This week we want to thank David Minkin, Nicole Bruckman, Robin Skov and Page Miller for being the wonderful rescue friendly souls they are and including DDR in their work/existing projects. Many of the events donate their proceeds to DDR. We want to do a shout out to the following folks and it will be headed by no other than our 61st street kennel success story…Mr. Larry!!!!!

Larry got adopted today and he is one of the 61st Street Kennel hoarding case that really has won a lot of DDR volunteer hearts! Here was poor Larry at an over-crowded kennel in South LA, tied to a tree 24/7….

And here is this sweet, intelligent and wonderful Larry in his new home!

Ok resting on your own personal doggy bed and playing with chewies!
Larry has finally found his home — but wait, we want to ask one final request!

Larry, are you ready to thank everyone and give them that winning happy smile you now will permanently have? LARRY SAYS YES — ok Larry – flash the smile and give the thanks!

On behalf of DDR, I would like to first thank my new family Marshall and Courtney!!!! YAY!!!!! I’ve found my forever home!

Also, I would like to thank the following people whose support of DDR, will continue to make rescue work happen for other dogs like me…. so…..

NICOLE BRUCKMAN!

THANK YOU for involving DDR with your A MUTE OF HOUNDS EXHIBITION at MELTDOWN GALLERY! 20% of proceeds from artwork sold is really a big deal for us + setting up an adoption event at the Gallery and just really coming up with great satellite events that encourage donations […]
